Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The death of a student in Kaliaganj, North Dinajpur, has caused uproar and protests in the area. The student's body was found on Friday morning, and the area remained silent until Saturday afternoon, when local people began protesting.
According to reports, there were clashes between the protesters and the police. The deceased girl's body was allegedly dragged on the roadside, and a video of this was shared on social media by BJP leader Amit Malviya.
National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written a letter to the Director General of Bengal Police, seeking answers within three days, while National Child Rights Commission Chairman Priyank Kanungo has also requested information. The National Child Protection Commission has sent a four-member team to investigate the incident after a complaint was filed. The team will talk to the family of the deceased and report back to the center after examining the situation.
The National Child Protection Commission Chairman, Priyank Kanungo, criticized the police's handling of the situation and called the incident inhumane. The commission had previously filed a complaint against the Officer-in-Charge of Tiljala police station after the death of a child in Tiljala a few days ago. The commission representative then went to Malda to investigate the rape of another girl.
The incident in Kaliaganj has caused tension in the area, with locals accusing the girl of rape and murder. Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar visited the victim's family on Saturday. The National Commission for Women has also requested a report from the Director General of Police in Bengal regarding the incident.
